ABOUT CULLMAN

Downtown Cullman Alabama
The Cullman of today is a mix of small town life and "big city" convenience as the city experience an influx of new retail and commercial development. Historically built for architecture, the city's more recent growth has stemmed from new and expanding industries, encouraging new residents to relocate to the area.

Population
The city's population has increased by 20% since 1980 and is expected to continue growing at 2.3% each year. It is projected that by 2030, Cullman's population will have grown from 16,200 to over 34,000. That number may increase even more as Cullman focuses on attracting new industries, retirees, and annexes more surrounding areas into the city limits.

Location
Cullman is centrally located between Birmingham and Huntsville, Alabama, and is in close proximity to many of the Southeast's major automotive manufacturers and suppliers. Additionally, the city is located near Smith Lake, Lake Catoma and Lake George, which has brought an ever increasing number of retirees to the area.

Access
The City of Cullman is crisscrossed by a number of key roads, including US Highways 31 and 278 and State Routes 69 and 157. Additionally, the city lies along Interstate 65 with two interchanges (Exits 308 and 310) located with the current city limits.

Downtown
Within the downtown area of Cullman, there exist over 50 historic commercial buildings that are registred with the National Register of Historic Places. The current downtown merchants include restaurants, retail shops, personal service companies, and professional offices. Even in its currently "unrefined" state, the downtown economy is fairly healthy, and enjoys a good volume of business.

Downtown Cullman also features several tourists and visitor attractions, including the Cullman Depot, Cullman Festhalle and Market Platz and a redeveloped warehouse district that includes niche retail stores and restaurants.
