PLAN OVERVIEW
The City of Cullman 2030 Comprehensive Plan is a framework for city growth, development and redevelopment decisions. The plan is based upon earlier plans and studies conducted by government and business leaders, as well as the citizens of Cullman, but takes in consideration the changes that have occurred in the past ten years.
The mission of the Comprehensive Plan is to enhance Cullman’s image as a vibrant, attractive place where many people want to live, invest, work, shop and play. Cullman is a community that is keenly aware of both its history and its future.
The plan answers attempts to answer three key questions:
- Where is new growth and development most likely to occur?
- When must the City be prepared to accomodate this growth with expanded services, infrastructure, facilities, and prgrams?
- How will the city finance the cost of expanded facilities, infrastructure, services and programs?
The plan is organized to recognize the community's assets, liabilities, opportunities and constraints. Through the planning process, several shared opportunities emerged:
- Revitalization of the Downtown Cullman Shopping District.
- Development of a joint city/county geographic information system.
- Enhancement of the city entrance gateways and wayfinder signage.
- Development and redevelopment of properties at Interstate 65 interchanges.
- Enhancement of major commercial corridors and districts.
- Expanded investment in industrial sites and business/office parks.
- Historic preservation as a basis for tourism and to retain the unique heritage and character of the community
- Natural areas, green spaces, and birding sites focused on tourism.
- Continued enhancement and expansion of the Cullman Farmer's Market at the Festhalle-Maket Platz
- Construction of a Farm Heritage Orientation and Welcome Center.
- Building a new multi-purpose civic center and arena
- Retrofit a group of Grief Property Structures into a cultural center for the performing arts.
