DOWNTOWN PLAN OVERVIEW
Downtown Cullman, Alabama is an important asset to the city and has the potential to become a vibrant tourism locale, featuring niche boutiques, restaurants, loft apartments and cultural and historic attractions. Currently Downtown Cullman has numerous businesses that enjoy a good volume of traffic, but the restoration of historic buildings, wayfinding signage, streetscape projects and other improvements will help increase visitors to the downtown area.
The Role of the Downtown Redevelopment Authority
Cullman’s Downtown Redevelopment Authority was originally established to issue tax-free or tax bonds. In more recent years, the authority has been restructured to take over the responsibilities of overseeing downtown development, streetscaping and general planning for the downtown area. The downtown redevelopment authority consists of a five-member board, elected on staggering terms.
